Classification

List of squirrel species with scientific and common names, from Dennis Owca's Squirrel Place. The list would be more useful it if showed family relationships, instead of presenting a flat list. Has a good link list. Top 5%

Animal Diverisity, about the different genus classifications of the flying squirrel.

Useful list of mammalian gliders (not just "flying squirrels"), supporting some anti-evolutionist comments by Ronald I. Orenstein. The amount of convergent evolution is certainly great, but the mechanism involved is not particularly subtle. Unlike some other evolutionary paths, gliding doesn't require any time in a "in-between" state; any increase in jumping range directly benefits a tree-dwelling critter.

"Systematic Study of Flying Squirrels in Western and Eastern Trans-himalayas" by Fahong Yu, Charles Woods, and Yanping Peng. Reviews some classification issues. Is this a grant proposal?
