From hiking, backpacking, fishiing, bicycling, rafting, golfing and tennis in the fair weather months to a plethora winter activites such as skiing, snowbiling, ice skating and doglsled rides in winter time, there is something for everyone in every season. From boating tours, drives around the rim of Crater Lake to camping at Matazama Village and winter snow shoeing activities, the Crater Lake Area offers an abundance of things to do.

If you are traveling in the Klamath Falls area, the Lava Beds National Monument with all of the its tumultous geological and historical aspects is a must see. The Southeast region of Klamath Falls offers some of the best birdwatching in the nation. Considered a four seasons destination, Mt. Shasta attracts visitors from all over the world interested in outdoor activities. Climbing, hiking, fishing, rafting, swimming, golfing, skiing, and snowbiling are just a few.

If you are traveling in the Burney area, McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park has a beautiful water fall and the are worth a visit. There are also plenty of opportunities for fishing, water sports, golfing, hiking, and mountain biking. Also check out the Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park and The Hat Creek Observatory.For intermediate and advanced hang gliders and paragliders, the Hat Creek Rim Site also offers the only foot-launched site in this Northern California Portion of the Byway (One must have an official United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Intermediate Rating to fly from this site). Views of these "sky sailors" also offer great views and photo opportunities in the late afternoon, when winds are ideal for flight.

The historic town of McCloud. and its surrounding area has a lot to offer in terms of recreation: hiking, fly fishing, and three gorgeous water falls. The Upper McCloud River area is accessible by a scenic road which forms the McCloud River Loop.

The Butte Valley Region offers wildlife viewing, bird watching, and nature trails. The lakes and rivers offer Rainbow Trout, Catfish, Brown Trout, & Bass Fishing. Also, The Lava Beds National Monument is a must see.

In the Mount Lassen Region hiking opportunites ranging from easy to challenging are in abundance. In particular, The Bumpass Hell Trail offers is the largest concentration of hydrothermal features in the Lassen Park. Horseback riding, fishing, skiing, and swimming are also options.

To get an overview of the Lake Almanor recreation area, follow this link. There are also many hiking trails to chose from: The Lake Alamnor Recreation Trail, with views of Lake Almanor, Dyer Mountain, and Lassen Volcanic Park; The Almanor All Access Trail with nine miles of views of Lake Almanor; and, the Spencer Meadows National Trail. You also might want to check out the nearby Caribou Wilderness Area. A winterland of fun, this area also offers cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.
