Total confusion! Related to an old U.S. Army term,

When a boat is brought along-side a ship "bow to
stern" rather than the accepted (traditional?)"bow to bow".
- Chit
Any request form. (also see "Red-Lined Chit")

Anything "eatable", usually food served on the mess decks.
- Chow Hound
In Yiddish say "Fresser".
- Civies
Civilian clothes. Not allowed aboard ship. Had to be stored at the 'Y'.

To move on the double out of the area you are at, especially if a mooring cable or line threatens to stretch too far.

The process whereby a "Pollywog" becomes a "Shellback" through a most memorable meeting with King Neptune and his court at the occasion of crossing the Equator. During this event, the ship is taken over by said king and existing shellbacks and the senior officers are customarily nowhere to be seen.
