The Overland Trail

Dedication Ceremony

The Dedication of the Overland Trail as an official Millennium Trail was a smashing success. It was estimated that upwards of 1000 people attended the ceremony, held on the historic Roberts Ranch in northern Larimer County, Colorado.

The ceremony opened with a drummer and bagpiper, followed by the Boy Scout Color Guard and the Sheriff's Posse of Larimer County, led by Jim Alderden, Sheriff.

The Millennium Trail Resolution was read by Lt. Governor Joe Rogers of Colorado and signed by all legislators in attendance.

Attending the celebration as shown seated in this photo are Derek Roberts of the Roberts Ranch, Elizabeth Lawrence, Overland Trail, Lt. Governor Joe Rogers of Colorado, Congressman Bob Schaffer, Larimer County Commissioner Kathay Rennels, State Senator Stan Matsunaka, and State Representative Bob Bacon.

The certificate designating the Overland Trail as a Millennium Trail was accepted by Elizabeth.

Evan Roberts as a "Steward of the Land" for preserving the cultural and historic sites on the ranch, first homesteaded by the Roberts Family in 1873.
