This type of designation is fairly recent and is not an approved type of AASHTO route, nor is it in the US MUTCD. It is being used to recognize former routes of US highways with historic and/or cultural significance, such as former segments of US 66. An alternate name for this type is "OLD", which has the same basic meaning. | |
