Old Testament / Hebrew Bible

Genesis 6:9ff., the only continuous narrative account in the Bible.

New Testament

Matthew 24:38 and Luke 17:26.

"In (those) days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day that Noah entered the ark. They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away."

The notes to the NAB write:

"the Old Testament account of the flood lays no emphasis upon what is central for Matthew, i.e., the unexpected coming of the flood upon those who were unprepared for it."

Matthew also does not stress their sinfulness, "eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage" are normal human activities, not necessarily depraved ones. Luke adds that in the days of Lot men were "eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building."

Also: 1 Peter 3:20, prefiguring baptism, and 2 Peter 2:5.

Koran

All references to Noah in the Koran (here "Nuh") from UMich's edition of M. H. Shakir's translation . Most the meat is in 11.27fff. See also this triple translation. I have yet to find an online version of the Koran which is (1) seachable, (2) easy to read, (3) accessible by chapter and verse, eg., with anchor links. If you know of one, please let me know.

Comment: There are a great many more of these. This currently lacks Koranic commentary. The "Meaning" pages contain a good deal of close analysis of the text.

I choose the New American Bible for its pleasing format and for its faithful but non-literalist notes, eg., on the main flood account:
"The story of the great flood here recorded is a composite narrative based on two separate sources interwoven into an intricate patchwork. … Both biblical sources go back ultimately to an ancient Mesopotamian story of a great flood, preserved in the eleventh tablet of the Gilgamesh Epic. The latter account, in some respects remarkably similar to the biblical account, is in others very different from it."
