History of Evora

1911 Encyclopedia Britannica: Evora. Good but dated summary; the "temple of Diana" was being used as a public library.[1]

Jewish Encyclopedia: Evora details anti-Jewish actions in Evora during the 15th and 16th centuries. Entry by Gotthard Deutsch and Meyer Kayserling from the 1901-1906 Jewish Encyclopedia.

The Virtual Jewish History Tour: Planícies. Covers Santarém, Castelo de Vide, Marvo, Monsaraz and Evora. The Jewish community was wiped out by the Inquisition. Evora has some of the most impressive remains, many on the Rua da Judiaria (The Jew's Street). Some Jewish houses bear a mezuza, some with the shema still visible.

1913 Catholic Encyclopedia: Evora.

The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition (2001)
