Kursk - Infantry Unit Comparison


The table below shows a count of the major components for the following types of division:
Note that the "men" counted are only the combat troops - the rifle squads, engineers and so on; they are counted as "squad-equivalents", not as individual men.

The key points from this comparison:
  1. The German divisions had more Anti-tank guns
  2. They also had more artillery - but the Soviet heavy mortars go some way to countering this
  3. Theoretically, the German old-format division had parity in infantry
  4. In reality - unlikely - the Soviet divisions were up to strength, the Germans weren't
  5. Unsurprisingly, the Guards Rifle Division has the most of everything !
