Novelist and Princeton University Humanities Professor Toni Morrison has been honored with many awards, including a 2000 National Endowment for the Humanities medal, the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for her novel, Beloved, and a 1993 Noble Prize in Literature. She was the first African American winner and the first woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature since 1938. Morrison has made a significant contribution to American cultural life and is considered to be one of the U.S.’s most renowned authors.
