Dwyer Telegram
, 1970
Courtesy, Private Archives, Frank Keenan, Washington, D.C.

This telegram from Florence Dwyer (1902 - 1976) and other women in congress, was a gentle "push" to urge the Nixon administration to release the final report of the 1969 Task Force on Women's Rights and Responsibilities.  The telegram had no impact and the report was finally "leaked" to the press by Vera Glasser, a female reporter, sympathetic to the Congresswomen and their efforts. The report recommended a "national commitment to basic changes that will bring women into the main stream of American life."
