Jane Grey Burgio, a West Caldwell Republican, served in the New Jersey Assembly between 1973 and 1981 representing the 25th District. In 1981, she was appointed Secretary of State by Governor Thomas Kean. During her term, Burgio brought all the cultural agencies of the state under her department. She was also instrumental in promoting and expanding the State Council on the Arts and expanding the grants program of the New Jersey Historical Commission.
