"Bessie" Holmes Moore (1876-1959)
Source, " Coming Tennis Champion,"
Harper's Young People
, August 9, 1892, p. 683

Described as the "little girl from New Jersey", 16-year-old Bessie Moore of Ridgewood was a newcomer to national lawn tennis competition in 1892. She took the annual June women's tournament in Philadelphia by storm and surprised everyone when she won the tourney against more experienced competitors. She went on to win the national women's lawn tennis singles title in 1896, 1901, 1903, and 1905.
