About this Site

Welcome to The Complete Petra, a web directory and guide to the ancient city of Petra. Located in present-day Jordan, Petra grew rich from the spice trade. During the late Hellenistic and Imperial period local worthies engaged in what seems to us now a fantastic orgy of construction, carving Greco-Roman façades from the living rock.

On this site you will find history, archaeology, images, travel journals and much more. There are over 100 links.

I've tried to include everything I could find on the net. Much of it is redundant. (There are a few dozen pages with a paragraph of introductory text and a photo of the Khazneh.) The categories also overlap. In general I've put sites in the category that best applies and put the better sites first.
