6 Sketches
by Ricardo Flores

Here are 6 simple, but charming sketches of French soldiers from a literary magazine called 'Lecture Pour Tous', a sort of Reader's Digest magazine. During the war-time years the magazine published many stories and ilustrations having to with the war of course.

Such type of sketches were considered to be quite artistic and were much admired for their realistic qualities, being called 'character studies', 'studies from nature' or something along those lines. These particular drawings appeared as illustrations for a short literary piece about the joys of going on leave, hence all the smiling and happy faces. The author and artist is Ricardo Flores. No information is given about him, but from the first-hand descriptions he gives in the article it would appear he was a soldier in the French army.
