Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church

Continue south on Main Street to Curlis Avenue. Most noteworthy is the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) church on the west side of Main Street. This congregation, the third oldest in Pennington, organized in 1816. Its church building, built in 1847 and rebuilt in 1876, is an excellent example of simple Gothic Revival style and serves as the focal point of a historically important grouping of vernacular Federal and Homestead style buildings, some dating to the early l800s.
