Ban Tarleton wrote his memoirs of the Revolution, The Campaigns of 1780 and 1781 in the Southern Provinces of North America while he was living in Europe with Mary Robinson. There has been considerable speculation over the years about how little or much Mary contributed to the writing of the book. Minimally, she is said to have helped him with research, but some people grant her credit for doing most of the writing.
I dunno about that. How can anyone who has sampled Mary's overwrought poetry or novels imagine she contributed much of the spare, dry narrative of the Campaigns? If Mary had written it, the book would be six times as long -- and 90% of those extra words would be adjectives.
