British/Commonwealth Armoured Brigade

By CRME/26899/SD1 (a) of 27 February 1942, Armoured Brigades in the Middle East were reorganized into Armoured Brigade Groups by the addition of artillery and engineers from the Support Group, now abolished, and a share of administration services from Divisional Troops. The artillery addition was an artillery regiment which included an Anti-tank Battery of 16 guns in addition to the three 25-pdr batteries.

The Armoured Regiments were also being re-equipped with American tanks at this time. By CRME/26899/SDia dated 15 March 1942, Stuart and Grant tanks were allotted to 1, 4, 8, and 9 Armoured Brigade Groups, and Grants were added to the British Crusaders (Cruisers) in 2 and 22 Armoured Brigade Groups.
