British/Commonwealth Armoured Brigade

Tank Establishment for an Armoured Brigade was now:

Total Tanks in HQ Armd Bde 10 Cruisers
Total Tanks in Armd Regt 46 Cruisers
6 C.S. Cruisers
Total 166 Tanks
Personnel in an Armd Regt 31 Officers
546 Other Ranks

By WE 1/1931/2C wef 1 May 1940 the tank equipment of armoured brigades and regiments was altered to a single type - the cruiser tank. Armoured brigades became homogenous dropping the prefixes 'heavy' and 'light'. The fighting, reconnaissance and administration groups of an HQ Armoured Brigade were organized into an HQ Squadron. Armoured regiments changed their titles in conformity, and the single tank equipment enabled the organization of a regiment to be simplified. The number of troops in a squadron was reduced from five to four.
