Major William Chronicle's Monument

This monument marks the spot where Major William Chronicle, from Lincoln County North Carolina, was killed during the battle.  Major Chronicle and Captain John Mattocks had previously provided vital information concerning the site of Ferguson's camp to the American Forces.  The two men had maintained a deer hunting camp on the mountain during the previous autumn.
