Greenville Bridge Project
This is a $206 million cable-stayed bridge that once
completed will boast a 1,378-foot center-span, the longest cable-stayed
span in the continental United States.
The
Second Tacoma Narrows Bridge Project
In Tacoma, Washington a second Tacoma Narrows
is scheduled to be constructed along side the existing structure.
Construction is on track to begin early 2001, with a projected cost of
$350 million.
Palm Beach
International Airport Interchange
The PBIA project will consist of 14 new
bridges, with the total length of the project being 1.8 miles, 2.9
km. The total construction cost is $109 million, and the project
is slated to begin in June, 2000.
Carquinez
Bridge- San Jose, California
After 72 years a new $200
million dollar twin-tower suspension bridge will replace the original Carquinez
Bridge in the San Francisco Bay area. Construction on the new project is
expected to begin in March 2000.
Louisville-Southern
Indiana Bridge Project
This project is
the largest bi-state transportation project ever by Indiana and
Kentucky. The project focuses on a stretch of the Ohio River,
roughly from Clarksville, Ind. and 9th St. in downtown Louisville,
Ky.
This bridge is up for replacement. It is the only federally owned
bridge on the interstate system. It is currently in the design stage and
will cost approximately 600 million dollars. The construction is schedule
to start mid 2000 while the final design is still be completed.

This two hundred million dollar project is in its early stages yet.
There are 4 different bridge types be decided upon. The 4 choices are
cable stayed, suspension, steel truss, and concrete box girders. As of
August 22, 1999 it looks like steel truss is out of the running and it is a dead
heat among the other three. The bridge type will be decided by October 5,
1999. On October 6, 1999 BridgePros was informed, by e-mail, that the
choice was for a cable stay bridge!
New Colorado River Bridge
The Federal Highway Administration is preparing an environmental impact
report for a $198-million bridge spanning the Colorado River about 1,500 ft
downstream of Hoover Dam in Nevada. The project is aimed at unclogging a
bottleneck along the major commercial route linking Arizona, Nevada, and Utah.
