M10 ACHILLIES, LA ROCHE

La Roche-en-Ardennes was liberated by 51st (Highland) Division assisted by the 1st Northamptonshire Yeomanry RAC on 11th January 1945. This unit was equipped with M10 Achillies tank destroyers, armed with 17-pounder anti tank guns. This was the common version of the M10 as used by British units.

This tank was placed here in January 2000 by surviving veterans of the Northamptonshire Yeomanry, including author Ken Tout who was written many books on WW2. The project was assisted by the people of La Roche, and the tank stands on a high point overlooking the town.

This particular vehicle depicts the tank commanded by Lieutenant Tony Faulkner, who was the first officer from the regiment into La Roche in 1945.
