BASTOGNE SHERMAN
Situated in the main square of Bastogne, this American M4 A3 Sherman testifies to the massive use of Armour during the Bulge in 1944-45. This particular example, armed with a 75mm gun, was used by Combat Command A of 11th Armoured Division and was knocked out on 2nd January 1945 during the fighting for Renuamont. However, it is now painted in the markings of a tank from Company C of 37th Tank Battalion, Armoured Division: one of the units that broke the siege of Bastogne in 1944. The lead tank that broke through to the lines of 326th Engineer Combat Battalion on the perimeter was named 'Cobra King' and this is the name painted on this tank.
