Several months ago, one of Holley's and my e-friends found a modern print of Ban Tarleton for sale in a museum shop and snapped it up. Unfortunately, it was the last one they had for sale, but after a little random research with the Charlotte, N.C. phone book, Holley made the acquaintance of artist Werner Willis.

Werner is a long-time resident of Charlotte, where he has worked as a commercial and fine artist. According to his press release, he is "immersed in two periods of American history that hold great appeal for him -- the Southern theater of the American Revolution and the softer, gentler side of the South at the turn of the century." I haven't seen any of his turn-of-the-century paintings, but his RevWar material is well worth the look.

His Revolutionary War art prints include "The Hornet's Nest" (featuring William Davie), a series of five prints under the umbrella title of "Commanders and Heroes of the American Revolution", and "Assault on the Mecklinburg Courthouse".

"Commanders and Heroes of the American Revolution" includes equestrian portraits of Banastre Tarleton and Lord Cornwallis (both pictured here), as well as Daniel Morgan, William Washington and Nathanael Greene. They're 8" x 10" images on heavy stock. (I particularly love how the horses are represented in styles reminiscent of the art of the period.)   Banastre Tarleton by Werner Willis
