Suffolk, July 20, 1781.
DEAR LESLIE,
By a letter I have received this instant from the Commander-in-Chief, it is necessary to stop the
sailing of the expedition, which you will be pleased to do, and remain with the transports in
Hampton Road until you hear further from me. You will be pleased to communicate this to the
Commodore, and make an apology to him for my not writing.
Believe me, &c.,
CORNWALLIS.
