Wynnesborough Octr. 30th 1780
Sir,
I inclose to you a Dispatch for Major Genl
Leslie, and another for the Commander in Chief. I hope
the latter may be in Time for the Thames: You are requested
to forward the other by the most expeditious Conveyance. Both
are left open, that you may be fully instructed by them, of
Lord Cornwallis's Intentions.
We have learned from Camden this morning, that some of our Militia from the High Hills of Santee under Colonel Tynes, have had some kind of check near the Forks of Black River. Lord Cornwallis wishes much to have some Account from you of that Eastern District --
It may be necessary to inform you, that Lord Cornwallis has ordered large Magazines, both of grain and Forage to be laid up at Camden, Congaree and Ninety-Six --
I understand that Lieut. Colonel Tarleton with his Corps is to cross the Wateree [p2] tomorrow, and may possibly make a Visit to the Neighbourhood of Pedee. Lord Cornwallis is very well, and recruits his Strength rapidly
I have the Honor to be
Sir,
Your most obedt Servant
Rawdon
Lieut: Colo: Balfour
Commandant of Charlestown.
