Mark,

I finally got into the plateau.net.usndd/ web site and we're excited about helping develop the information on the USS Acre.

My father served on the Acre from 7/19/43 until 1/4/46 as a MOMM1C. We have the same photo that is being shown on the web site. Dad says it was taken on their return from the South Pacific in October 1945 when they were entering the San Diego Harbor for a 6 day rest before continuing to the Panama Canal.

The photo was taken by O.W. Waterman, 722 Broadway, San Diego CA.

The ship was built in New Jersey and was commissioned in the Brooklyn NY Navy Yard. It was decommissioned sometime after 1/6/46 at Green Cove Springs, St John River, Jacksonville, FL. Our records are pretty acurate as to this information.

Here is what we also have in relation to the ship:

1. The same picture
2. An excellant pencil drawing of the ship
3. A picture of the crew that was taken December
1944 at Todd Shipyard in Alameda, CA
4. Dad has a log of some of his day to day travel.

Did you know the crew has an annual reunion that is going to be held early October in Annapolis, MD?

I'm trying to find out if anyone is tracking down or knows the missing information you need. Let me know if you want us to send you any of the information we have.

That's it for now. I'm going to go in and fill out your 'form' in the web site also.

Best Regards and thanks for your efforts on this project....

Donna Loving

Mark,

I wasn't sure who to send this picture to, but you seemed like the best person. This is a JPEG of my dad's Destroyer Escort.

I've just introduced him to the Internet and since there doesn't seem to be a picture of his particular ship anywhere, he wanted me to send you this. I don't think there are any copyright issues attached to it.

He has many personal pictures to share. I was wondering if you'd be interested in any of them. His name is Ernest M. Brown.

To The Crew On The Acree

On that vast Pacific Ocean, 'neath a sky of heavenly blue, Many ships are pressed in duty, to protect our land so true.

There is one Destroyer Escort, for which I watch and wait. It's that little ship, the "Acree," how I wonder what it's fate.

From New Caledonia to the Marshalls, and The shores around Saipan, I ask God to protect you, every officer and man. As you stand on deck and wonder, What your orders next will be, When you sight a deadly target, From your marked enemy.

Say a prayer each night and morning, for Sailer, Soldier or Marine, And those brave men up in the sky, who Have to come in on a beam.

Keep your chin up, your eyes alert, And some day you will tell, The folks back home a tale of how, You gave those Jap rats hell.

Lets hope that day's not far away, When you come home to us. And don't pretend your pride is hurt, When we cry and make a fuss.

So keep the "Acree" sailing, for There's lots of treat in store, For you and all your "Shipmates," When you hit that 'Frisco shore.
