DE 167 (Cannon Class)
We are seeking information on the USS Acree and her crews. Files and photos may be emailed to usand we will incorporate them into this page. When enough informationhas been assembled we will then build the ship her own section.
Date: Tue, 21 Sep 1999 From: Donna Loving To: Mark Roberts CC: [email protected] Mark, I finally got into the plateau.net.usndd/ web site and we're excited about helping develop the information on the USS Acre. My father served on the Acre from 7/19/43 until 1/4/46 as a MOMM1C. We have the same photo that is being shown on the web site. Dad says it was taken on their return from the South Pacific in October 1945 when they were entering the San Diego Harbor for a 6 day rest before continuing to the Panama Canal. The photo was taken by O.W. Waterman, 722 Broadway, San Diego CA. The ship was built in New Jersey and was commissioned in the Brooklyn NY Navy Yard. It was decommissioned sometime after 1/6/46 at Green Cove Springs, St John River, Jacksonville, FL. Our records are pretty acurate as to this information. Here is what we also have in relation to the ship:
1. The same picture Did you know the crew has an annual reunion that is going to be held early October in Annapolis, MD? I'm trying to find out if anyone is tracking down or knows the missing information you need. Let me know if you want us to send you any of the information we have. That's it for now. I'm going to go in and fill out your 'form' in the web site also. Best Regards and thanks for your efforts on this project.... Donna Loving
Subject: USS Acree DE-167 Mark, I wasn't sure who to send this picture to, but you seemed like the best person. This is a JPEG of my dad's Destroyer Escort. I've just introduced him to the Internet and since there doesn't seem to be a picture of his particular ship anywhere, he wanted me to send you this. I don't think there are any copyright issues attached to it. He has many personal pictures to share. I was wondering if you'd be interested in any of them. His name is Ernest M. Brown.
