Tony Tustin
Joined K Force as a volunteer for the great adventure in 1950. Trained as a driver (CO's jeep driver) and as such saw from the interesting end the early part of 16 Fd Regt's action in the theatre. After a small injury, I was posted as Regimental ration clerk and remained as such until returning to NZ in late 1952. When 2 Fd Regt was transferred to Wanganui in about 1955, I enlisted in the TF and rose to Troop Sergeant Major by 1959 when I re-enlisted in the Regular Force as a Bombardier at 161 Battery at Papakura. From there to the RF Depot at Waiouru as a weapons instructor, Viet Nam for a while as a No. 1, NSTU for a spell then back to CSM NSTU at Burnham, from there to BSM at 22 Bty at Fort Dorset for a couple of years and then on to SSM at the School of Artillery until I retired in 1977. A soldier's life history. A life I never regretted and would do again. Wars, warts and all. |
