The Modern Women's Movement

New Jersey women have always been significant in the history of the state. In diverse time periods, from many walks of life, from varied religious, ethnic, and racial backgrounds, and from different economic classes, women have contributed to the politics, economy, culture, and social life of the state in important ways.

We have not always known about their history and most books on New Jersey history do not tell their story adequately, but that is now changing. Here are two learning activities on woman suffrage and slavery.  The other activities have not yet been developed, but relevant documents and images are available through the topical index.
