General histories

Much general material is found in the section Justinian and Theodora .

Two excellent short chapters: "Overview of Late Antiquity--The Sixth Century" and "Justinian -- Wars and Church Councils" from Overview of Late Antiquity by Steven Muhlberger

The Early Centuries of the Greek Roman East by Nikolaos Provatas, a very thorough but somewhat nationalistic (and therefore anachronistic) take on the period.

"Justinian knew that true patriotism and national pride would come from the teaching of the record of achievements of ancient Greece."
Provatas' runs the site Romiosini: Hellenism in the Middle Ages, replete with articles and links to other resources.

Long biography of Justinian, from De Imperatoribus Romanis, an online encyclopedia of Roman emperors. Article written by James Allan Evans, who also wrote the long (and excellent) articles on Theodora, Justinian's uncle and predecessor Justin and his son and successor Justin II.

The Reign of Justinian, 527- 565: Introduction to Medieval History (Lynn Harry Nelson)

"Goths, Franks, and Justinian's Empire 476-610," by Sanderson Beck, web polymath, author of large-scale historical essays, leftist, believer in Atlantis and Lemuria, guru and founder of the University of the Golden Age. His Byzantine history pages are highly detailed, but I don't know if the content is any good.

Amazon. History of the Later Roman Empire: From the Death of Theodosius I to the Death of Justinian by John B. Bury.

"Justinian and the Roman Empire " , a student paper by Luke W. for Clio: Journal of Ancient and Medieval History at Dickson College 1998.
