The T SQUARE Club Yearbook of 1914 was a publication of selected architecture from the Philadelphia Chapter American Institute of Architects twentieth architectural exhibition. This event was held at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. It contained the most pertinent architectural drawings, photos, reports, listings, and advertisements for the year 1914. We used the scanned document that the Athenaeum of Philadelphia made available to us as an indication of the kind of rich architectural primary resources that exist in the archives of Philadelphia's cultural institutions. This is only one of nearly 50 such volumes, which usually appeared annually between the 1890s and the 1930s.
In addition to the current designs by Philadelphia architects,
the T-SQUARE Yearbook of 1914 contains photos and reports on the restoration
of Congress Hall. This building, situated in Independence Square, underwent
renovation and preservation efforts from 1899-1913. There are twenty seven
pages in this volume of the T-SQUARE Club journal that focuses on this event.
Typical of most publications during this era, there was a significant portion at the end of of the yearbook devoted to advertisements. The broad range of advertisements vary from bricklaying companies to faucet fixture installation businesses, but it is common for the advertisement to include interesting architectural sites as examples of work completed by the solicitor. These ads are indexed in the last section of images.
