'Sur le Front'

an Inexpensive French War Magazine

'Sur le Front' (At the Front) was a very cheaply printed and low-priced weekly newsmagazine that featured 8 pages of moral-building war-photographs. Little factual news was to be found in this magazine, most photographs were run with captions giving little explanation of what was happening at the front, in spite of the title. Even so, the choice of photographs is interesting as they are not the usual run-of-the-mill news agency material. Many show scenes of smiling and jolly French poilus engaged in any number of everyday tasks.

The general presentation and appearance was somewhat similar to 'Sur le Vif' and 'Les Hommes du Jour'.
