of Arras. A number of events are planned locally -

Agny
- Ceremonies at the village war memorial, British
Cemetery (burial place of poet Edward Thomas) and French
Cemetery.
Bertincourt
- 20.00. Screening of film Joyeux Noel at the
Salle Intercommunale des Sports.
Sunday
8th April 2007
Thélus
- 10.00. Wreath laying ceremony.
Arras
- 14.00. City of Arras gives Freedom of the City to the
Canadians in commemoration of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
Arras
- 19.30. Unveiling of memorial to the New Zealand
tunnellers who worked on the tunnels and caves beneath
Arras.
Faubourg
D'Amiens Cemetery, Arras - 20.30. Lighting up
ceremony of the cemetery and memorial to the missing.
Monday
9th April 2007
Bullecourt
- 08.00. Ceremony at the Digger Memorial.
Monchy
le Preux - ceremony at the Newfoundland
Memorial.
Faubourg
D'Amiens Cemetery, Arras - 10.00. Ceremony at
the cemetery and memorial.
Arras
Cathedral - 11.30. Ecumenical celebration.
German
Cemetery St Laurant Blangy - 15.00. Ceremony
at the cemetery.
Vimy
Ridge Memorial - 16.00. Major ceremony to
commemorate the Canadian Corps capture of the ridge.
Huge crowds expected with road restrictions in place
plus security. Tour operators and groups may need to

Vimy
to Bullecourt - 20.30. Torch lit ceremony.
Some 10,000 torches over a 20KM route will mark the
front line on 9th April 1917.
Tilloy-les-Mofflaines
- 22.00. Musical fireworks spectacular.
Tuesday

Arras
- Bi-lingual conference on the battle with several
speakers including author Jon Nicholls and Dr Chris
Pugsley of RMA Sandhurst.
