Michael Bellesile's book was used for its in depth research on the life of Ethan Allen and the history of Vermont.
Countryman, Edward. ".ut of the Bounds of Law'": Northern Land Rioters in the Eighteenth Century." The American Revolution: Explorations in the History of American Radicalism. Ed. Alfred F. Young. Northern Illinois UP, 1976.

Hall, Hiland. History of Vermont: From Its Discovery to Its admission into the Union in 1791. Albany N.Y.: Joel Munsell, 1868.
This book seemed to be as good as John Pell's autobiography on Allen. I strongly recommend it. It can be found at the Connecticut Historical Society.
Holbrook, Stewart H. Ethan Allen. New York: The Macmillan Company, 1940.
Holbrook's book was used as sparingly as possible because he did not use citations. More of his work was used until I found that his work was undocumented.
"Historian Hardy Refutes Scandal on Ethan Allen," Lakeville Journal 28 august 1958. (There is not a page number attached to the article)
This article can be found in the box of clippings, journal articles, and whatever else the town of Salisbury has collected on Ethan Allen. This box is located in the archives room at the Scoville Public Library, in Salisbury, Connecticut.

This textbook was instrumental in the description of Shay's rebellion and defining Republicanism.
Van deWater, Frederic F. The Reluctant Republic: Vermont 1724-1791. New York: Cornwall Press, 1941.
Frederic Van deWater was another author to not use citations. His book was also used sparingly because of this. He did however have some information on the history of Vermont.
