Small Arms Manufacturers

Among those producing war materiel in Tennessee were many small arms manufacturers. These firms produced the small arms necessary to equip a substantial army. However, not all firms produced their own weapons--some, like Thomas Riggins Workshop, practiced the art of converting antiquated flintlocks into percussion cap pieces.
The following table represents our initial effort to identify small
arms manufacturers in Tennessee. The names listed below are manufacturers
as defined by the U.S. Census of Manufacturers. As research proceeds,
additional information will be added to enhance the comprehensiveness and
detail of this aspect of Tennessee's technological and industrial heritage
