SURVIVING CIVIL WAR RAILROAD-RELATED BUILDINGS IN TENNESSEE

Apparently only a handful of Civil War railroad-related buildings have survived in Tennessee.  Although numerous railroad properties were destroyed during the war itself, many more railroad buildings that survived the war fell victim to obsolescence during the subsequent rapid expansion of rail services associated with the late 19th century railroad boom.  Some survived until fairly recent times, only to be lost through neglect, primarily because they no longer served any economically viable use.  Consequently, the few that have survived are rare, historically valuable remnants of the Civil War period, and they deserve careful preservation.
