Eric,
I was thrilled to find the Glover Info page.
I reported for duty in early Spring 1967 when she was in South Boston. I will never
forget the sight of her, stern to, in dry dock as I pulled up in the taxi. It was a real
thrill, my frist SHIP! I served her for four years and witnessed installization of all
three sonars, although my area was the ANQSQ-26. I left her just prior to the Med.
cruise of 1971 and took a discharge from Newport. The years I spent aboard and
the crew I knew were some of the best. It is good the know there are some others
who feel the same.
I wonder if anyone remembers when the "G" of her name was painted out while in
the yards?
I looked for photos but did not find much. One I found in a magezine in 1982
showed her firing an ASROC. No reference was made to the ship, but the Hull
number is a dead give away. If you would like it let me know and I'll try to scan it.
Keep it up...
Tony Russell ST1 (used to be)
