Thanks so much for hosting the Glover page. I am getting e-mail from new
shipmates every now & then and its so nice to exchange memories. Here
is the one I got today:

> Hi Steve,
> I just stumbled on to Destroyers Online, and was absolutely stunned
> at what I saw. I was stationed on the Glover from 1975-1979 as an ST. I
> was one of two that was in charge of the I.V.D.S. room in the stern and
> also ran the depth finder on the bridge during sea / anchor (nice job!)
> .
> This page and related personnel stories really brought me back, and
> also enlightened me to some of the ships history . It seems like anyone
> who served on her felt like part of a family. I also was surprised to
> find out after all these years what a special vessel she was.
> Please help me find a page or source of information to find some
> of my old shipmates. Anything you can do will be appreciated.
> Thank you and take care,

Eric, I would ask if you receive a posting from Capt. Bennett Simonton,
that you post it for us. I found him in a web search & he was our CO
from 1970-1972 when I was aboard. I have asked him to send in some info.
I am attaching a scan of our workjacket ships patch and the patch from
our 1970 Med cruise. Hope you can do something with them.

Thanks again, Steve Gottlieb

Gottlieb To: Destroyers Online CC: michael.d.snyder@lmco.com Hi Eric, I really do appreciate the time and effort you and others have put in on the Glover page. It has opened up lines of communication with folks I never would have thought I would run in to again. You know its only been 26 years since I left Glover. I'm hoping that maybe we might have a reunion someday. I have a list I'm keeping of all ex-Glover sailors I hear of and presently have 21. I served at the same with Snyder, Unhjem, McCormack, Locker and Russell, all contibutors to your site. Several of them have asked me to see if you would post 4 pictures I have that document Snyders story dated 7July98 of our 1971 Azores stop. 1. shows the guppy submarine U.S.S. Jallao (SS-368) surfacing. 2. Glover scraping along the cable layers bow, 3. tight berthing, 4. aftermath of the fuel leak. Maybe you could pull the 4 pics that I sent in that are at the bottom of the page to make room. These pics are 30-60K. Dont want to prevent others from posting pics I havnt seen. How do they use thumbnails? Can you explain? If ok let me know and I will send the files. Thanks very much, Steve Gottlieb
Subject: Glover Date: Sat, 20 Dec 1997 From: Steven M. Gottlieb To: Destroyers Online Hi Mark, Attached is the JPG of Glover. It was taken around 1970, probably off one of the Atlantic coast test ranges. The photo was for the U.S. Navy Underwater Sound Lab, New London, the generator of our operations. By the way during my time she was directly responsible to Destroyer Development Group II, Newport, R.I. You can see the IVDS deployed out the stern. I hope you can reduce the picture to fit a browser window. When I view it with VUEPRINT it is the right size and looks great. But it is twice as big as my browser window. Much better then the photo on Navsource. Will start reviewing the slides this weekend. Excited about Glover page. Hope we can attract other crew members & some of their stories. Thanks, Steve Gottlieb
Subject: Glover Date: Wed, 17 Dec 1997 From: Steven M. Gottlieb To: Destroyers Online Hi Mark, I read with great interest the e-mail you received from "ED" about the Glover. It sounds like he was aboard around the same time as me. Do you have his whole name or e-mail address as I'd like to try to contact him. Would really like to get more names from the 1968-1972 era. The high hat on the fantail he talked about housed the VDS sonar transducer and winch for the system I maintained. Actually the fish was my responsibility, the winch was maintained by the GM's. I was aboard during the entire installation of the system at Boston Naval Shipyard and attended factory school at EDO corporation in NYC. I have some slides of her in drydock. I'm not sure if you can see the pumpjet but I remember pictures of the forward sonar dome. I'm going to review my slides and pick some interesting ones to be scanned as JPGs. I also have pictures of Kresta class Russian cruisers sitting close by in the middle of the Med trying to figure out what the heck we were doing. Tommorrow I will have a friend scan an 8 x 10 B & W official photo of the Glover. It was taken for the Underwater Sound Lab I believe around 1970. You can see the IVDS cable deployed and trailing astern. OfficeMax wouldnt scan it because it was stamped as an official photo and did not have a release stamp. I told the kid he probably shaved with a razor blade this morning that was made from that ship. I would really love to see a page dedicated to the Glover and would be pleased to start a picture gallery. Lots more info to come. Thanks, Steve
