I know that Rogers was decommissioned on March 1981 and was simultaneously
struck from the US Navy list. Transferred that same month to the navy of the
Republic of Korea (ROK) or South Korea Navy under the terms of the Security
Assistance Program, the destroyer became ROKS Cheon Ju (DD-924) and operated
with the South Korean Navy into 1981. Her operation ability was improved by
ROK Navy. So she could carry a Westland Navy Lynx helicopter and Harpoon
missiles. But ROK Navy has plan to discharge her as soon as possible because
of her old age. Now ROK Navy is building more modernized Destroyers under
Korean Destroyer, Phase 1 Project. They will substitute for Rogers.

Robert, I was on the "R" from 69 to 71, a BT in the after fire room. I have
some memories of the ship. There does not seem to be much avalible on the
Rogers as far as past crew members. I also was on another ship before the
Rogers and they have a nice web site and have quite a bit of contact with
past crew. As for the fate of the "R" there is info avalible through the
Navy on line web page thanks .

Hi Bob,
My name is Tom Quade and I served on the U.S.S. Rogers for a short time in
1972. Before coming aboard the jolly "R" , I did a tour of duty on Swift
Boats, CosDiv 13 out of Cat Lo and Sa Dec. I then was on the U.S.S. Benjamin
Stoddert DDG-22. I served time on the "gun line" on both the Stoddert and
the Rogers. As far as details, there are far too many cobwebs and CRS. I
think I may have some pics of the Rogers, I'll look for them and scan and
send them. I'm really glad someone is getting a website going for the
Rogers. She was a proud ship and a part of my own personal history.
