[email protected] Richard, here is a photo of the Kraus and the German Destroyer Hesson D184 tied up pierside in Rosyth Scotland at the British Naval Base. This was taken in the fall of 1970 and comes from the Cruise book. Both ships were part of the STANAVFORLANT [ NATO ] fleet for that summer and fall. What I remember most about the Hesson, other than the prodigious quantities of beer that were consumed on her every night inport, was the hail of projectiles small and large that she could produce during training exercises. The pilots pulling drogue targets earned a healthy respect, if not outright fear of her. The fear coming in after one exercise when she parted the target tow cable very, very close to the aircraft.
