DD 784 - The Crews
Does anyone in the crew remember a troop of boy scouts going out for a day cruise? Drew Cartwright was one of those scouts and would like to know if anyone took pictures that day in September 1973. The troop was from Canoga Park, California. If anyone has any photos or comments and can email them to Drew or to us and we will be glad to post them.

I can still remember crossing the brow the first time. It was at liberty call and I was just about run down with sea bag and orders. I was stationed on her from January 1969 to October or November 1969. I was sent to Vietnam to work on the brown water boats. I was an FA when I got there and was a FN when I left. I can still remember alot of the faces but can't remember the names. I don't remember his name, but there was a MM that we called "OKIE". We were in the shipyard in Long Beach in 1969 and went on a midshipmens cruise shortly afterwards. We went from Long Beach (homeport) to San Fransico, Vancouver Washington, Hawaii, San Diego, and back to Long Beach. Maybe someone else can remember this. I was in E gang when I first got onboard, then to mess cook, then to M Div in main control. Hope this will help. Bruce Attebery, [email protected]

[email protected] My name is Fred Mortensen I went on to the USS McKean sometime in 1969 after graduation from EM "A" school I went on when she was in dry-dock and spent my time in "E" div. I transferred to the USS Parsons when the McKean was going to change homeport to San Francisco. I think that the first class I worked for was Joseph Cusamono Probably spelled wrong. Fred Goodman was an electrician in E div. also. |
