Washington

RVD: The State of Washigton uses George's profile in a lot of places, including on a pole beside the road as a route marker. Putting his head on a pike was probably unintended. To avoid this minor gruesomeness, try this sign on for size: a state outline with evergreen numbers for emphasis.

From Michael Hensley: Washington also uses the colors from the flag, with a silhouette of the state behind the number. Instead of the silhoutte of George used in the current signage, I used the state seal instead.  Originally, I had "The Evergreen State" along the top. Again, it was too "busy", so I omitted the words and moved the state outline and state seal up.

From Mark Ingalls: I think that Washington should step away from the green, taking into consideration the fact that a large portion of eastern Washington is desert, so I decided to use another Washington State icon, Mt Rainier. I got the background from the licence plate.
