Kansas

RVD: It's kinda corny, but appealing in a way. The color really pops out at you. As an added bonus, Kansas's highway shield would no longer resemble the bp logo.

From Albert Calis: Here are several of my designs for Kansas state route shields. Each have the state outline and the state name. They are all basically the same, just with subtle differences. 1 and 2 both have the yellow sunflower resembling that on the existing state route shield, but shield 2 has the state nickname ( The Sunflower State ) under the state name. 3 and 4 have the state crest in the corner instead of the sunflower, and shield 3 has the nickname like shield 2.

From Gene Van: The designs Albert Calis submitted to the Makeover site Kansas page are good. This is my version. Background in blue to match the state flag. State shape in gold to match the sunflower (aka "sawblade"). Since the state standard road nomenclature uses "K##" I stuck a K in the sawblade. The state seal in the upper right of the shield balances the layout.
