CCS: I was dissapointed when I saw the official sign on James Lin's site. I was always hoping that any D.C. sign would incorporate the District flag which I always thought looked sort of spiffy. So for my sign, I tossed it in; and added blue, for complete patriotic effect. It is the Nation's Capitol, after all.
From David Kendrick: I like the D.C. flag, but I think a traditional black-on-white look would work best, since the D.C. flag's colors, red on white, are reserved for emergency regulatory signs. My concession to history was to use the "Bookman" typeface on this sign, the same one the park service uses for its brown signs in some areas. Obviously, since D.C. right now has only one numbered route, there isn't a lot of demand for this sign.
From Albert Calis: Here's my idea for a shield for the DC area. I merely took the design from the city flag, and made it into a shield.
RVD: With all the political talk in 2008, my thoughs drifted to the District of Columbia. The motto is all too accurate, and I think might still be an option for DC license plates. Someday those folks will actually get a voice in American government.
