Arizona

RVD: In Arizona's favor, they use the state outline in their highway shield. On the downside, the Colorado River in the shield has become a straight line over the years and there is no color. This new shield drops the state name in favor of a representation of the state flag. The true Colorado River border is back, and the blue underfield from the state flag was extended for placement of highway numbers. The downside is that red and yellow fade fairly quickly in the sun-baked southwestern United States.

Nick Christensen submitted this potential Arizona design. It drops the state name and state's outline completely and emphasizes the star, much as if you were looking at a closeup of the state flag.

From Albert Calis: Here's my idea for a new Arizona shield. (RVD - The one on Big Signs shows the cattle skull much more clearly.)

From Bobby Peacock: Here's my idea for a new Arizona shield.

From Michael Tino: My partner and I were just in Arizona, where I complained a lot about their ugly signs with the simplified border. He sent me your site URL this morning and I thought, oh why not, and drew up the idea for an AZ sign that came to me riding around through Sedona last week. It would not change width with two numbers (I hate that).
