Alberta

From Albert Calis: Couldn't think of a better name for a province myself! *LOL* Well anyways, here's my redesign of the existing Alberta Provincial Highway shield. I added a half-transparent colorful province outline inside the inner shield, and gave the whole shield itself a blue color.

From Vijay Ramlakhan: I had a little trouble thinking of a graphic that suited the entire province.I thought of using a mountain or a glacier (for the Rocky Mountains/Columbia Icefield), a cow/bull (Alberta beef), an oil rig, or a cowboy hat, but none of those really seemed to be suited for the entire province. Then I noticed that the primary route shield and the shield on the provincial flag have roughly the same shape... superimpose the two, and viola, instant primary marker. For the secondary highways, the current markers have a graphic of the wild rose (the provincial flower) above an ellipse containing the highway number; however, in new signs, in a step towards blandness, the wild rose has been replaced with the Alberta word mark. What I chose to do is expand the wild rose to cover the whole of the sign, and have the number sitting on top of the flower, with the Alberta word mark in the corner.Fairly simple, but it’s a lot more aesthetically pleasing than a number in an ellipse.
