New US 25E is above you and to the left, heading into the
Kentucky side of the Cumberland Tunnel. The concrete Jersey
Barrier in the middle dates from the time new construction, it
was used to reduce accidents along this segment of old US 25E.
Bill Porter added, "I remember when that barrier wasn't
there. It was just a wide spot in the pavement between the
northbound and southbound lanes. The road was four laned at that
point but they put the barrier in and made it two laned because
of the tunnel construction." (Image 32 of 33)
