Just to the south of the parking area are the remains of an old monument. Maybe this was the old tri-state marker? One was mentioned as being along the road in the 1921 Automobile Blue Book. In the background is a roadside monument placed by the Kentucky Department of Transportation. Bill Porter added: "Believe it or not that monument in the picture (minus the statue on top that is missing in the photo) used to be a monument to a dog. I don't know the story but the statue was of a dog. There were several other monuments in the gap. They are now all gone (even the one in the picture and the historical marker as well) as of early May 2001." (Image 18 of 33).
