Just to the south of the parking area are the remains of an old
monument. Maybe this was the old tri-state marker? One was
mentioned as being along the road in the 1921 Automobile Blue
Book. In the background is a roadside monument placed by the
Kentucky Department of Transportation. Bill Porter added: "Believe
it or not that monument in the picture (minus the statue on top
that is missing in the photo) used to be a monument to a dog. I
don't know the story but the statue was of a dog. There were
several other monuments in the gap. They are now all gone (even
the one in the picture and the historical marker as well) as of
early May 2001." (Image 18 of 33).
