MAINE CENTRAL

This page will cover the area around Portland, Maine.  Portland is Maine's largest city and it is where the Maine Central had their largest yard, known as Rigby Yard.  Interchange with their long time partner, the Boston and Maine was done here.

A wholly owned subsidiary, the Portland Terminal Railroad operated the yard and the local branches in the area.

To reach the small Grand Trunk (CN) yard in downtown Portland, the PT used some street trackage on Commercial Street.  The PT also had their own yard along the river for local industries, many of which were gone by the 1970's.   To view the GT page, click here
