The soldier at right is using a turfer (hand-operated winch) attached to a ten-pin earth anchor to drag the long-wheelbased Landrover tractor and gun out of the mire. His mechanical advantage would be more effective in moving the vehicle than the combined efforts of the other six detachment members.
